To benefit from this scheme e, the citizens should qualify with the requirements. The eligibility criteria must have the following:-

  • The applicant must be a woman.
  • The applicant must be an employee in an establishment in punjab.
  • The applicant must have worked for a period not less than 160 days, in the establishment, including the days during which you were granted leave.
  • The applicant must be certified by a registered medical specialist to be pregnant and expect to give birth to the child within 6 weeks from the date of production of the certificate.

Ineligibility for this scheme

You are not eligible for this scheme if you have any of the following categories:-

  • A casual or temporary employee.
  • An employee who has been employed for less than 160 days in the 12 months preceding the date of application.
  • An employee is covered by another law that provides maternity benefits.

Required documents:-

  • A copy of identity documents such as an adhaar card, driving licence, passport etc.
  • A copy of your employment certificate.
  • A medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner confirming your pregnancy and expected delivery within six weeks from the date of the certificate.

Additional documents that may be required in specific circumstances:-
  • Copy of marriage certificate.
  • Copy of child’s birth certificate. Bank account statement displaying your account number and ifsc code.

The Punjab Maternity Benefit Scheme Registration

To get the benefits of this scheme, one has to follow the Steps of registration

Offline registration
  • Download the application form from the labour department website or get one from your employer.
  • Fill out the application as per the provided guidelines. Make sure to provide all the required details.
  • Attach the documents with the application form. Submit the application form and attached documents to your employer.
  • Your employer is responsible for submitting your application to the Department of Labour within 15 days of receiving it.
  • The labour department will process the application, and upon approval, issue you a maternity benefit certificate.
